Trail Alignment is a mountain bike consultancy led by Rob Potter, who has spent over 15 years developing, managing, and promoting trails and the businesses they support.

Rob brings nationally recognised expertise across all stages of trail development—from concept and planning through to construction, management, and marketing. His work on landmark projects demonstrates a deep understanding of market dynamics, rider expectations, and the natural, cultural, and social values that shape successful trail destinations, alongside the legislative and planning frameworks that govern them.

Trail Alignment’s effectiveness comes from integrating strategic planning with on-the-ground delivery. Rob has led feasibility studies, developed funding applications, and managed complex construction projects in collaboration with councils, tourism bodies, and private landholders. This combination of practical and strategic experience ensures trail designs are achievable, sustainable, and aligned with both rider needs and land management objectives, while also securing buy-in and investment.

In addition to planning and construction, Rob has extensive experience in mountain bike tourism marketing and industry engagement. He has contributed talent and locations for national and global media campaigns, developed destination branding, and supported local businesses in building MTB-aligned products and experiences.
