The Mountain Bike Feasibility Assessment Framework, developed for the Department of State Growth, provides a structured and consistent method for evaluating the potential of proposed mountain bike trail developments in Tasmania. Its purpose is to guide proponents—such as councils, land managers, and developers—through a weighted scoring system that assesses key factors including legislation, terrain, environmental setting, market demand, connectivity, and community support.
The framework’s value lies in helping decision-makers identify the most viable and sustainable development opportunities, compare different sites or concepts, and ensure proposals align with broader economic, environmental, and recreational goals. It also supports transparent, evidence-based planning that reduces risk and maximizes return on investment.
